How can the FRA help you?
First, you can use the FRA's Rail Crossing Locator to locate highway-rail grade crossings. Use the information you find to plan safe, efficient, and reliable transportation around these critical infrastructure locations.
Once you've found the crossing, check the details in the FRA's database to make sure it is open and to confirm that it is functioning properly. The FRA also provides information about the crossing, such as its address, what types of traffic it carries, what types of trains or vehicles it is used by, and more.
The FRA is also responsible for posting the grade crossing's number and location on the National Highway System (NHS). This number is used by all highway agencies to communicate with the railroad, and it is also shown on the USGS map.
